First they end up in a dystopian future, the world is going to end if they don't stop the bad guy, then they go back and forward in time. There were the flaming tire tracks as the car gets up to speed to "time travel", there is a mad scientist, there is the train in the travel first back to the wild west (Back to the Future 3), so it's like Speed Racer Back To The Future in different eras of time. The anime takes place in an utter Earth city focusing vastly on battles between the main characters (Players) controlling special powers and otherworldly monsters (Noise) within an arena (Reapers Game) that utilizes manipulation which full fills the high stakes game vein. Mystery is literally a prominent aspect as puzzles and investigating cases unfold throughout the series. This is why the show isn’t adventure itself, it should be summarized more rightly on these genres. |

The plot follows two orphans (Black & White disordering) who are enrolled in a journey to towns filled with the Yakuza — a fundamental type of organized crime typical for that genre and chief aspect to this anime which further connects to the inner exploration world building. So, it utterly deserves these two categories, and at the same time doesn’t fit the supernatural genre radically. |
