Must admit I didn't understand this song when I saw it for the first time. Then I read the comments and realised Ed introduced a whole culture to the world and that is just incredible. Persian empire, Cyrus the great, first declaration of human right, all that thosands of years before Islam and after Islam everything the Muslim use to say Islam is good comes from perisans from poets like ferdosi, khayam, hafez, scientists, polymaths. Even the number system and algebra comes from a Persian called al-khorazmi. Today more than 80% of Iranians hate their government (the Islamic republic) because this government has been oppressing them for 46 years and trying to take away their identity as Persians and enforce Islam on them. For context Persians have resisted arabization for centuries they ultimately in order to stop the bloodshed of their people mostly converted to Islam but kept their Zoroastrian roots till this day. And because of the current regimes authoritarian ways they now are leaving Islam in millions. There was a study that shocked everyone as it showed only 5-10% of Iranians actually practice Islam. 60% have completely rejected it while 20% call themselves Muslims just because the believe in god but don’t believe in any of the Islamic practices and profits. Iranians also want peace with Isreal and USA. They actually hope that their crown prince Pahlavi will return to iran and free them from the theocracy of Khomeini who was actually Indian decent! Many of the leaders in iran are not even Iranians they are Arabs who are occuping iran and have taken it hostage
